Breakfast at Kothi

If you peek into the 28 Kothi Black Book, you may concur that it reads more like a catalogue of talent. We’ve had the privilege of hosting Jaipur, India and the world’s artists, creators and dreamers, who seek creative asylum in our peaceful corner of Jaipur, with the occasional noisy peacock for company.

We took a tally of our inspiring guests’ favourite time of day at 28 Kothi, our boutique hotel in Jaipur’s Civil Lines, and breakfast emerged as the undisputed winner. The sun is soft and there’s an optimism about the place each morning.

In our latest series, Breakfast at Kothi, we profile some of our illustrious visitors, getting to know why they love Jaipur and what brings them back to the Kothi.

Why Do You Return To Jaipur?

Jaipur is an immense inspiration for us. From the motifs to the colour combinations used in Hemant & Nandita, the label, all are majorly from Rajasthan, especially Jaipur. In fact, Jaipur feels like a second home.

What Is Your Favourite Dish/Beverage To Have At Cafe Kothi?

We make sure we have the famous Thali at least twice, before we come back to Delhi. Doesn’t have much oil, not spicy at all. Everything is just perfect. Even the way the table is set with marigolds for dinner is beautiful. I personally love flowers, especially marigolds.

Share Your Best Kept Jaipur Secret.

Jaipur shocks us every time. Only by walking around, talking to people, sitting at small shops/vendors, can you find great things. I love talking to people and I end up making so many friends. We as a team love to explore new places. On each trip we discover a new place to buy fabrics or glean colour inspiration from. We walk everywhere, cutting through houses and streets, stopping where we find inspiration, such as an unexpected block printing workshop inside some random house. It’s fabulous what all we find, it feels like a magical place.

Which Part Of 28 Kothi Are We Most Likely To Find You At?

My favourite part of 28 Kothi is the lawn. We can hear peacocks in the morning and evenings, which I find soothing. It’s the best part of the day, really.
