The New Gem Of Johri Bazaar

Jaipur’s obsession with jewellery, it’s no secret. This compulsion for all things precious peaks in Johri Bazaar, the city’s most popular colonnaded thoroughfare and seat of Jaipur’s crafts and commerce. Fortunes are forged and ruined in the bazaar’s back-alley transactions. Only those with a keen eye thrive.

The Johri & Sons, our cocktail-bar, was conceived against this charged backdrop of the jeweller’s market. Like the bazaar’s fabled finds, it took us a while to cut and craft our resident gem at our boutique hotel, The Johri.

The wellspring of inspiration around us warranted that we create a thing of beauty that would draw many more to the famed market to imbibe potions, however, rather than lessons in gems trade.

True to its surroundings, The Johri & Sons is a transportive experience. Through a menu of 15 signature tipples, the bar immerses you in a bygone Jaipur, rife with royal encounters, the acquisition of iconic gems and other glorious dalliances.

Each drink is also a testament to India’s botanical might, as seen in the use
of seasonal herbs and spices in addition to local spirits.

Some of our picks include:

Nazariya

A variation on the negroni with a hint of watermelon to distinguish it.

The Hourglass

An ajwain (carom seeds) infused gin cocktail with elderflower cordial.

The Prescription

A gibson with pickled apricots.

The Johri Highball

Crafted with Japanese whisky and hibiscus tea.

It takes a village

Like the discerning dealers of Johri Bazaar, who exclusively work with a trusted few, we had to first find our tribe to build our bar. In Stranger & Sons gin we found the perfect partners to amplify our India narrative. As two contemporary Indian brands that celebrate India, it was easy for us to align on a common goal - to create an Indian spirited bar with heritage at its core and a stellar cocktail experience on par with the world’s.

Abhishek Honawar, founder of the Honar Group, which runs The Johri, is no stranger to crafting the bar experience. He started his career in hospitality by co-founding Woodside Inn, among Mumbai’s most successful establishments that changed the way the city drinks over fifteen years. The Johri & Sons is his homage to the walled city and Johri Bazaar itself, which has been The Johri’s home for the past two years.

As we started putting together the pieces, the project drew more talent into its fold. The menu was meticulously curated by bar consulting company Countertop India’s Arijit Bose, one of the country’s finest barmen, supported by a solid team including Aditya Sharma from Delhi, Prashant Kumar from Bangalore and Kunal Singh Verma from Goa.

COCKTAIL HOUR

The Johri & Sons keeps a 12-hour shift from noon to midnight. The bar is most vivacious post sundown, when the bazaar winds up and regulars pour in and rub shoulders with resident guests and Jaipur’s cocktail aficionados.

All thirsty to partake in this elegant throwback we have thoughtfully designed for you.
